Frequently asked questions

“In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks.” - John Muir

What do the sessions involve?

Forest bathing, or Shinrin Yoku, is the experience of immersing yourself in nature to improve wellbeing. The practice will involve periods of gentle walking, alongside a series of invitations (activities) to encourage relaxation, mindfulness, and nature connection. The term ‘bathing’ relates to bathing in the atmosphere of the woodland/forest environment and does not involve water.

How long are the sessions?

The length of sessions will vary depending on the event. In general, sessions will last around 2-3hrs to allow you time to experience the session in a gentle and relaxed way. It can take us time to decompress and leave the ‘everyday’ world behind us, so longer sessions like this help us to do this. Some sessions may be shorter and can help if we don’t have the luxury of time but still want to experience some of the benefits forest bathing can offer.

Are the sessions suitable for children?

This will depend on the individual event, but in general, these sessions are catered towards adults or young adults who do not need supervision and are comfortable spending time in silence. We do sometimes run sessions for children and/or families, who can also benefit greatly from forest bathing.

Do I need to be really fit?

No, you do not need to be very fit to enjoy this walk, but there may be areas of uneven terrain and/or a few (small) inclines. If you have mobility concerns then please get in touch so we can discuss the route and work with you to ensure this is suitable.

Will the event still run if it rains?

Yes! Rain can actually add to the experience of forest bathing because it provides additional sensory stimulation (e.g. sounds and smell). Please just ensure you are dressed appropriately for the weather. In cases of extreme weather the event may be postponed.

What should I bring with me?

Wooded areas can get muddy and we strongly encourage you to wear waterproof walking boots with a good grip that you don’t mind getting dirty.

We would also recommend wearing layers, and a decent waterproof jacket is a must. There will be a couple of occasions where we will be standing still, and at these times, you can feel that chill quickly!

There may also be moments when you feel like perching on the ground, and it might be helpful to bring a sit mat or similar to sit on (even a plastic bag might work!).

It is advisable not to wear any strong smelling perfume, face or hair products as it can make it more difficult to attune your sense of smell during the session.

You may also want to bring a bottle of water if it is hot.

Do you run private or corporate sessions?

Yes, we are happy to arrange private 1:1 or small group sessions tailored to your needs. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this.
